ABB ACS580 — 2310 Overcurrent
A protective trip that occurs when the drive output current exceeds the hardware limit. Usually caused by a motor cable short circuit, ground fault or an overly fast acceleration ramp.
Updated: 2026-07-01
Symptoms
- Drive stops suddenly and reports 2310
- Repeated trip during acceleration
- Fault appears with motor cable connected, disappears when motor is removed
Probable Causes
- Phase-to-phase or phase-to-ground short in the motor cable
- Insulation breakdown in motor windings
- Too-short acceleration ramp (high-inertia load)
- Output stage (IGBT) failure
Checkpoints
- Disconnect the motor cable; megger phase-to-phase and phase-to-ground insulation
- Compare motor winding resistances (imbalance indicates an insulation issue)
- Increase accel time (par. 23.12) and retry
- Run without a motor: if the fault persists, suspect the drive output stage
Solution
SafetyDe-energize the drive and wait at least 5 minutes for the DC bus to discharge before any measurement.
- 1Isolate the cable
Disconnect the motor cable; if 2310 clears, the fault is on the motor/cable side.
- 2Measure insulation
With a 500 V megger, expect >1 MΩ per phase-to-ground and phase-to-phase.
- 3Verify the output stage
If the no-motor test still trips, the IGBT module should go to lab analysis.
