ABB · ACS580Fault Code 3210Warning

ABB ACS580 — 3210 DC Link Overvoltage

Occurs when the DC-link voltage exceeds the upper limit. Most often caused by regenerative energy from the motor during deceleration that cannot be dissipated.

Updated: 2026-07-01

Symptoms

  • 3210 trip at deceleration (stopping)
  • Repeated fault while a high-inertia load is stopping
  • Occurs when supply voltage is high

Probable Causes

  • Too-fast decel ramp → regenerative energy returns to the DC link
  • No or faulty brake resistor / chopper
  • Supply overvoltage
  • Overvoltage control disabled

Checkpoints

  • Increase decel time (par. 23.13)
  • If a brake resistor exists, measure its value and connection
  • Measure supply voltage on all three phases
  • Enable overvoltage control (par. 30.30)

Solution

Quick fixIf the application allows, first extend the decel time and enable overvoltage control; most cases resolve this way.
  1. 1
    Extend decel time
  2. 2
    Enable overvoltage control
  3. 3
    Add a brake resistor

For frequent, fast stops a brake chopper + resistor is mandatory.
